Raw food is packed with nutrients and offers many benefits to promote whole body health. You don’t have to feed a complete raw diet to give your pets awesome raw nutrition! Even a little raw in your dog’s diet goes a long way.
In 1997, Marie Moody adopted a dog named Stella from a local animal shelter. Shortly after, Marie decided that Stella needed a companion and she adopted a sick pup named Chewy who quickly joined the family and helped write the company’s history. To help with his health issues, Marie took the advice of a veterinarian and began feeding Chewy a raw diet. He quickly recovered and both he and Stella thrived on their new food, leading Marie to pursue her passion for pet nutrition and start her own business.

ABOUT US
Raw Food FAQ's
No, Stella & Chewy’s has a unique food safety procedure to ensure the safety of our products. The most powerful step in this procedure is our high-pressure processing (HPP) step—this is a cold water pressure process that effectively eliminates harmful bacteria from the food. We use this process on all of our raw products, regardless of the protein. As food-borne bacteria can be present in any type of meat, we feel that incurring the extra cost of HPP for all of our products is the responsible thing to do. This way, pet parents can rest assured that they’re always bringing safe food into their homes. Additionally, HPP is the only reliable method for maintaining the wonderful raw nutrition of our products while still removing harmful pathogens. We then send all batches to a 3rd party testing facility to be tested for pathogenic bacteria—nothing leaves our facility without negative test results in hand. We also post these test results on our website. We are highly committed to creating the most nutritious, safe, and delicious product on the market.
No, we work with animal nutritionists and veterinarians when creating all of our products and we do not believe that there is any concern when feeding a combination of a kibble and a raw diet. Raw and cooked foods may be digested at different rates, though there’s little conclusive evidence to prove this and no scientific evidence that they can’t be fed together. Many pet parents do mix our raw food with kibble and consistently have very successful results. We believe that incorporating even a bit of raw food into your dog’s kibble provides a convenient and perhaps more affordable way to give your pet the benefits of a raw diet.
No, Stella & Chewy’s works to make feeding a raw diet easy. We offer a variety of raw formats from frozen to freeze-dried to raw-coated kibble. As with any new routine, it just takes some getting used to. Feeding raw doesn’t have to be time-consuming or difficult!
Yes! Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried is a completely raw product—it’s the same formulation as the frozen dinners (in the same recipe). Freeze-drying provides the benefits of raw and the convenience of shelf-stable food!

HOW TO FEED RAW
How do I transition my dog to raw food?
When it comes to transitioning to any food, a slow transition over 7-10 days is recommended. To start, we recommend mixing the new food in with what you’re currently feeding, then slowly building up until the new food is the sole food that you’re feeding. Even if your dog isn’t eating their current diet, it’s important to start off small with new food and introduce it slowly, as sudden changes to diet can cause digestive upset.
